Dune Messiah
June 14, 2006 on 7:37 pm | In Livros | No CommentsI’ve just finished reading again Dune Messiah. It’s the second book in the Dune Chronicles series.
I love the Dune books. Since I’ve heard about the series twenty years ago I was hooked. The first book (Dune) I read in 1986 followed by the sequels. The Dune books consists of 6 books written by Frank Herbert. His son, Brian Herbert wrote a bunch of others in partnership with Kevin J. Anderson. The books from Frank Herbert are wonderful; the ones from his son are good, but do not compares with the fantastic vision Frank Herbert got in his Dune books.
For those that do not know the basic plot of Dune (do you live on Earth?) it tells the story of a planet (Dune) that is covered with sand almost everywhere. Dune has a geriatric spice called melange that extend life and can give prescience to some people. In Dune lives the Fremen, native people similar to Tuareg here on Earth and they can live in the hazardous conditions of the desert. To Dune travels the Atreides Clan to control the production of melange that exists only there.
And the book goes on with plots within plots within plots.
The entire series is a marterpiece of science fiction. Probably the only book that match what Frank Herbert did with Dune is The Lords of the Rings, from Tolkien.

Thou Shalt Blog?

Pro Blogger Darren Rowse launched a Group Writing Project to fellow bloggers share their blogging goals. I think it’s a nice try for several reasons but the first one is that I’ve just configured WordPress at my own website one day ago.
I started blogging at blogger in 2002 and two months ago I moved to wordpress.com. The main reason to move was that blogger was not so flexible as wordpress and I missed features like tags and trackback.
And why I’m moving again from wordpress.com to my own site?; lack of speed in wordpress.com and adsense. When I used blogger the interaction was always fast. When started to use wordpress.com I felt sometimes that the connection was really slow. Maybe it was my problem but after a month I started to think in moving the blog to my own website. When I discovered that wordpress.com didn’t allow adsense to run in their site I was frustrated and thought: “I’ve just moved my blog to a new place and it lack again something that I want”.
After that I study the possibilities and thought that the best thing to do was move again. So, new blog, new expectations
My blog doesn’t have a large amount of traffic, but as everyone I hope it changes over time. My kudos to Darren to help people increase their traffic (and their motivation too)!
And traffic is a real motivation to post more. Last month, when I posted about the murder of a young girl I saw my traffic skyrocket. That reaction told me that almost everyone can be interesting; you just have to write something useful.
In my case I had the right timing concerning the Anna’s post. I watched her memorial video on youtube (I think it was just uploaded at that time) and posted about it, trying to express that people carry a lot of feelings in their relationships over the web.
My post on wordpress had a lot of sad comments from people that I had never met but share the same feelings that I had when I watched the video.
I think my main goal with this weblog is to share my discoveries with people around the world, to connect with them and to spread my beliefs and goals.
Life in peace.
Good Blog Advices
June 6, 2006 on 12:41 pm | In Blog, To Think | 2 CommentsGood advices from ThisBlogThing Blog. Obvious things, but really good ones: use your own voice and make quality content.
When I talk about obvious things don’t get me wrong. Almost all the people knows the obvious things to do in their life, but the majority still don’t do it, procrastinating and living in a day to day basis, going nowhere.
Why this happens? Why people still live the life of others instead of their own?

June 6, 2006 on 11:55 am | In To Think | No CommentsToday is 6/6/6, watch your step!
One week ago I was travelling to do a speech about Web 2.0 at an University nearby and listened in the radio a religious guy talking about 6/6/6. He was really trying to perturb the people that were listening to him, saying that you have to take care of your children in that day, bla, bla, bla…Â What the heck! The bad side is that people still got fooled with this kind of mind games… What a shame. ![]()
